  1.                          LaTeX Error Reports

  5. ERROR REPORTS
  6.  
  7. Before you report an error please check that:
  8.  
  9.  * Your LaTeX system is not more than one year old.  New LaTeX
  10.    releases occur at 6 monthly intervals, thus your problem may
  11.    have already been fixed.
  12.  
  13.  * The error is not already mentioned in the documentation of the
  14.    distribution, e.g. in a .bug file.  (In this case it is a feature :-)
  15.  
  16.  * The error has not already been reported (if you have internet
  17.    access, you can search the LaTeX bugs database using
  18.    http://www.cogs.susx.ac.uk/cgi-bin/ltxbugs2html)
  19.  
  20.  * The error is not caused by software other than the core LaTeX
  21.    software that is produced and maintained by the LaTeX3 project
  22.    team (please report problems with other software to the authors
  23.    or suppliers of that software).
  24.  
  25.  * The error is not caused by using an obsolete version of any file or
  26.    of other software. 
  27.  
  28.  * You are using the original version of all files, not one that has
  29.    been modified elsewhere.

  31. If you think you have found a genuine bug in recent version of the
  32. core LaTeX software please report it in the following way:
  33.  
  34.  * Generate a bug report template by running the file
  35.    latexbug.tex through LaTeX2e.
  36.  
  37.  * Fill in the spaces in the generated template file.
  38.  
  39.  * Include all necessary information, especially a complete input
  40.    file, a complete transcript file, and all other files used (if they
  41.    are not standard).
  42.  
  43.    Please check carefully to ensure that any non-standard files are
  44.    essential to the bug; and remember that we cannot debug files not
  45.    supplied by us.
  46.  
  47.    Any such non-standard files should be included in a `filecontents'
  48.    environment at the start of your input file.
  49.  
  50.  * Please note that it is important to make the input file as small
  51.    as possible since this will enable us to find and fix the error
  52.    quickly.  It also helps us because then we can often use it as test
  53.    file for future releases.
  54.    
  55.    We would expect most files to be less than 60 lines, and very
  56.    rarely to be longer than 100 lines.
  57.    
  58.    This can often be achieved by defining a command to be some
  59.    arbitrary text and using this several times if it is necessary to
  60.    generate longer bits of text.
  61.  
  62. Error reports concerning UNCHANGED versions of CORE LaTeX files
  63. which are less than one year old should be sent by E-mail to:
  64.
